Memoirs from the bring back our girls campaign

The spirit of oneness 'UBUNTU "can make a huge difference in the world.
Release the girls that's what we plead for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag06Xk3r49A

As we are all aware of the kidnapping of the Nigerian girls, for more information open the following link.http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/the-bring-back-our-girls-campaign-is-working-boko-haram-should-be-scared-of-a-hashtag-9360830.html
The practice of public relations has been used in supporting the initiative for the bring back our girls campaign. Different media platforms such as: YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and also the traditional media such as television have been used by corporations , government and concerned people alike all around the world. This was the aim of rallying support for the campaign. As we have seen people carrying flags as well as posters with comforting messages on them showing sympathy and hope that the girls will be found.www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-ZCJjnxVVg

A clear example of how the PR practice has been used to promote the endeavour would be of how the South African Broadcast Corporation through  its blog, posted articles that showed activities of the general campaign and how it has been received by the world society and the current state of the overall situation.

Mass protests around the world were organised by lobby groups with the intent of getting their respective governments to release statements expressing their positions in the matter and the actions they plan to carry out with regard to the matter . This clearly shows that women rights are being violated and our girls are no longer safe in schools. We have the right to be protected and not harmed.

Picture of Alicia keys depicting how celebrated figures made use of their influence to promote the campaign. Celebrities made use of this occasion to exercise their corporate social responsibility.

What is your own opinion about how PR was used to the reach out to the people?
Do you think people were made aware of the missing girls?

  1. I also strongly feel that PR has played a major role in creating awareness for the campaign. It's helped in inspiring the efforts of the many individuals who took to the streets in protest against the issue. Public Relations has been the driving for of the campaign since the beginning.

  2. Honestly social media has helped PR in a huge way. Especially in situations like these we now know the news even before it even published by newspapers and news bulletins. Even public figures showed their support, especially the ones who are known globally. To help find the girls. Think about it where would we be without social media?

    1. I serious do not know where we would be. This was a very difficult situation where by they wouldn't have made it without the social media. Imagine how they campaigned it, it was very influential and many countries participating.

  3. to be honest I think the campaigns and peoples statements on social media played a little role in helping out the girls because many statements were made to just feet in and be praised for useless verbal help. Causing the girls to be tortured and harassed sexually and emotionally

  4. I think the use of social networks and public relations, has done a lot of work to unite people and share their thoughts about the situation. But don't you think technology is shaping the world that we are living in, where people rely on it than anything else?

    1. yes technology is shaping the world as we are living in a contemporary world. They couldn't rely on the word-of-mouth to create awareness at a very big issues as this. That is why the media was involved to make people aware of the missing Nigerian girls.

  6. Social media and PR have done well in relaying messages and news across the world. The only problem is they only influence the situation in a small way.

    1. I personally think they did what they were suppose to do as the media; as for looking for the girls, it was other people's duty. well trained and armed people.

  7. Social Media platforms were effectively utilized in order to raise an awareness of the 'Bring back our girls' campaign. Not a lot of people make time to read newspapers (for example) in order to keep up with the latest occurrences globally; however by means of social media platforms, many became aware of the kidnappings. Not only that, Public Relations practitioners, have taken advantage of spreading the word through Social media platforms thus making it easier for people to follow the story.
